Emperor Scorpion

Pandinus imperator
The Emperor Scorpion lives in the coastal countries of Western Africa, from Senegal to Congo and Gabon. They are found in the hot, humid rainforest, nestled in their own burrows, which they dig in the soil. Emperors also dig under rocks, logs or tree roots. Scorpions are sensitive to light, so they are primarily nocturnal. They may rest in a burrow, waiting until prey comes close to ambush it.. Scorpions must predigest their food before they consume it. Once the prey is subdued, they secrete digestive enzymes onto the prey, which liquefies the food and prepares it for consumption. Emperor scorpions are not particularly dangerous, in contrast to some other species of scorpion. Their sting has been likened to a bee sting in that it is painful, but medical attention is not usually necessary. However, some people may have an anaphylactic reaction to the venom (as some people do with bee stings) so it is wise to not take chances. Some people say that emperor scorpions are more likely to pinch you with their pedipalps, and this can be quite painful too.
