The Madagascan Giant Hognosed snake is a common sight to see on the island nation of Madagascar. They are found almost everywhere on the island, from rain forests on the east coast to the hot and dry west of Madagascar. These snakes get quite, with adults typically reaching six feet in length.
Giant Madagascar hognose snakes are opistoglyphous, which means they have fangs in the back of their mouth. Their mild venom is not dangerous to humans, but it helps them catch their prey. When Madagascar hognose snakes are threatened, they hiss loudly.
Captive Care
Madagascar hognose snakes in the wild will eat small mammals, amphibians, and possibly small birds. In captivity they love to eat freshly thawed out medium to large sized rats.
